For sure one of the great classics of the Alps, a panoramic ascent that takes place in a high mountain environment and stops at Gnifetti hut (or at Mantova hut). The Regina Margherita hut is placed on top of the “Punta Gnifetti”, the highest peak in the Valsesia; it was built in 1893 and restored in 1980. This important physical-meteorological observatory is the highest hut in Europe (4,554 m). It is one of the highest equipped laboratories in the world, for many years location of laboratories for medical and scientific research.
Day 1: Departure in the morning from Cuneo near the Global Mountain office (or meeting at Ivrea – highway) to Gressoney; we will get to Punta Indren by cablecar. In the afternoon we will rest for the next day’s ascent, dinner and overnight stay in the hut.
Day 2: Early departure in the morning to climb the glacier, crossing snow bridges that allow to pass big crevasses; we will get to the pass of Lyskam, continue climbing the Grenz glacier to reach then the last ramp that bring us to the summit. 950 m of difference in altitude, about 4 hours from the hut.
