The Queen of the Maritimes is located in the heart of the Valle Gesso: with its 3.297 meters of altitude it represents the highest peak of the massif, well visible both from the distant mountains of the Valle d’Aosta and the sea of the Côte d’Azur. The rocky structure gives the mountain a majestic and imposing appearance, so that the Normal Route is a really respected and challenging itinerary; the most interesting part of the route consists on climbing (I – II grade) an exposed ledge/debris rill that starts from the Passo dei Detriti at 3.100 meters and leads to the summit.
Day 1: In the afternoon, meeting with the guide at the Global Mountain Alpine Guides Office in Cuneo; after a brief check of the individual equipment, we will go by car to the Terme di Valdieri and Pian della Casa (around 1.700 m). From there in about 2 hours we will get to the Rifugio Remondino hut (2.450 m) where we will dine and stay overnight;
Day 2: Breakfast at 6.30 am, departure at 7.30 am. The itinerary first winds along stony grounds with big blocks, and then climbs up along trail tracks and snowfields till the Passo dei Detriti (Debris Pass). From here the route becomes more technical so we will tie on rope. We will follow the amazing ledge that alternates some “pas du chat” to small channels and debris grooves, to lead directly to the summit along easy small rocks. Descent along the same itinerary. Return to Cuneo in the afternoon.
LEVEL Easy alpinism. The climb requires a good hiking training level.
