During an ascent, managing unexpected situations is an important aspect that should not be underestimated. You might need to help your climbing partner overcome a difficult section during a multi-pitch route, have to ascend a stuck rappel rope, or lose your belay device. These are just some of the most critical aspects during a climb. The workshop, led by a Globalmountain Mountain Guide, is an in-depth day on various rock safety techniques and maneuvers.

Who is it for

This is aimed at those who already have a basic knowledge of knots (clove hitch, Munter hitch, Machard, and Prusik) or who have already participated in a basic mountaineering or multi-pitch course. The goal of the course is to consolidate a minimum set of knowledge and skills to make the climber independent in managing certain unexpected situations.

Program

This workshop is dedicated to rope safety maneuvers, a crucial element for anyone venturing into the wonderful world of mountaineering and climbing.

During this day, we will explore the fundamental principles of rope management, the most effective belaying techniques, essential self-rescue maneuvers, and strategies to prevent accidents. The goal is not only to learn "how" to do it, but above all to understand "why" certain procedures are vital in environments that are often exposed and unpredictable.

The educational program addresses and explores the following topics:

  • Advanced knots (one-handed clove hitch, Munter hitch for rappelling and belaying, bowline, Machard, Prusik, and joining knots)
  • Setting up progression anchors: fixed anchors and semi-equalized anchors
  • Different types of hauling systems to assist the second climber (assisted hoist and simple hoist)
  • Ascending a rope
  • Emergency rappelling without a belay device

Get ready to put what you learn into practice, because true mastery of rope maneuvers is acquired through direct experience and awareness of your own limits.

Necessary materials

  • Technical equipment: harness, helmet, 60m single rope or one 60m half rope, approach shoes with Vibram soles or comfortable climbing shoes, an assisted-braking belay device (GriGri, Revo), a manual belay device (e.g., Petzl Reverso, BD ATC, etc.), lanyard, one double-length Kevlar sling, two single-length Kevlar slings, at least 4 carabiners, quickdraws.
  • Optional equipment: ascender like Petzl Tibloc, Jumar handle

The price includes

  • One-day workshop with a Globalmountain Mountain Guide
  • Any missing technical equipment

The price excludes

  • Transfers and lunches
