Who is it for

This course is aimed at mountaineers and climbers with basic experience who wish to delve into advanced mountaineering topics.

Participation requirements:

  • Autonomy in tackling major normal routes (e.g., Capanna Margherita, Gran Paradiso, Monviso, Breithorn...).
  • Ability to climb as lead climber on 5a difficulty routes at a crag.
  • Experience on multi-pitch routes.

Program

WEEKEND 1: ROCK AND RIDGES IN THE MARITIME ALPS

Objectives:

  • Refining progression techniques on varied mountain terrain, with a particular focus on rock and ridges.
  • Learning and consolidating belaying and progression maneuvers on classic routes, using traditional protection (pitons and friends/nuts).
  • Short-roping progression techniques on ridges and mixed terrain.
  • Safety management and risk assessment in alpine environments on multi-pitch routes.

Program:

  • Day 1:
    • Theoretical introduction and review of belaying techniques with removable protection and pitons. Analysis of specific gear. Ascent of a classic multi-pitch route in the field (difficulty level suited to the group), focusing on correct protection placement and fluid progression. Day debriefing, error analysis, and preparation for the following day.
  • Day 2:
    • Ascent of a rocky ridge, featuring airy sections and passages requiring short-roping for simultaneous progression. Practical exercises on rappelling maneuvers from equipped and unequipped anchors, with a focus on safety and speed of execution. Final weekend discussion and individual feedback.

WEEKEND 2: SNOW, MIXED, AND GLACIER (LOCATION TBD)

Objectives:

  • Safe progression on snowy and mixed terrain using crampons and ice axe.
  • Learning and practicing self-rescue and crevasse rescue maneuvers on glaciers.
  • Belaying and progression techniques on moderate difficulty icy terrain.
  • Assessment of objective hazards in high-altitude environments (avalanches, seracs, crevasses).

Program (indicative, subject to change based on conditions):

  • Day 1: Transfer to the chosen area and theoretical introduction to the characteristics of snow and ice terrain, hazards, and specific gear (crampons, ice axe, glacier rope, ice screws). Practical progression exercises on snow slopes and mixed sections, learning different ice axe and crampon techniques. Practical exercises on building snow and ice anchors. Crevasse fall simulation and recovery techniques (simple pulley, double pulley).
  • Day 2:
    • Ascent of a snow or mixed ridge of appropriate difficulty, putting learned techniques into practice and managing rope team progression. Weekend debriefing, analysis of maneuvers performed, and individual feedback.

Useful information

IMPORTANT NOTICES (WHATSAPP GROUPS)

  • Primary Communication Channel: All course-related communications, including logistical updates, outing details, and last-minute information, will be sent via dedicated WhatsApp groups for participants. It is essential to be active and check these groups regularly to stay up-to-date.

LOGISTICAL DETAILS (MEETING TIME AND PLACE)

  • Weather-dependent Updates: The exact meeting time and location for each outing will be communicated by the guides 1 or 2 days before the scheduled date. This timing is necessary to be able to accurately evaluate the weather forecast and choose the most suitable and safe location for the activity.

LUNCH AND HYDRATION (INDEPENDENCE)

  • Individual Responsibility: Lunch is a packed lunch, so each participant is responsible for bringing enough food for the entire day in the mountains. Likewise, it is crucial to ensure you have an adequate supply of water or other beverages to stay hydrated during physical activity. Guides can provide advice on this, but individual preparation is essential.

OUTING LOCATIONS

  • Main Geographical Area: The practical outings for the second weekend of the course will preferably take place in the Rifugio Torino area on the Mont Blanc Massif, a territory rich in opportunities for learning mountaineering techniques on rock and snow.
  • Possible Changes: However, to optimize environmental conditions (weather, crowds, terrain specificities) and ensure the best possible training experience, it is possible that some outings may be organized in the Monte Rosa area. Any changes in location will be communicated promptly via WhatsApp groups.

The price includes

  • 2-weekend course with Global Mountain Alpine Guides

The price excludes

  • Transfers and overnight stays in mountain huts - expenses incurred by the Alpine Guide during lessons (ski pass, hut, and meals) must be split equally among the students.
  • Any missing clothing or technical equipment

The Mountain Guide is solely responsible for carrying out the program and may, for various reasons (weather conditions, mountain conditions, physical condition of individual group members, safety, etc.), modify the course of the trip during the outing itself. It will always be the Mountain Guide's task to propose alternative dates or destinations to the main one.

  • User cancellation: In case of voluntary cancellation of a booking made via Gift Voucher, any refund (calculated net of the penalties indicated above) will be re-credited exclusively in the form of credit/voucher of equal value, to be used by the original expiration date of the voucher itself.
  • Cancellation by the organization: If an activity booked with a Gift Voucher is cancelled by the School due to weather conditions, failure to reach the minimum number of participants, or force majeure, the voucher amount will be fully recovered through rescheduling or by re-crediting the voucher credit to the user profile.

Standard refund methods are listed in the Refunds section.

In case of cancellation due to a change in program or because the minimum number of participants was not reached, the Alpine Climbing, Ski Mountaineering, and Climbing Alpine Guide School in Cuneo will automatically issue a refund (or re-credit the voucher) at no cost.
