Take the next step: optimize your technique and lead climb without hesitation.

Advanced climbing is the art of efficiency: moving your body through space using the minimum energy possible and maintaining emotional control during crux sections.

During this course, we will analyze your climbing style to correct inefficient habits, refine rope maneuvers, and help you gain full confidence in the belay chain. Through practical exercises on different rock styles and angles, you will acquire the sensitivity and confidence needed to raise your personal bar at the crag.

Who is it for

The course is designed for climbers who are already autonomous in lead climbing and want to evolve to a higher level. It is not just about "increasing strength," but about developing real motor, tactical, and psychological awareness on the rock.

Minimum entry requirements:

  • Autonomy in rope management and lead belaying devices.
  • Minimum indicative level: ability to lead climb 6a routes.

Participant objectives:

  • Evolution of movement techniques (cross-progression, balancing, use of heels/toes, and rest management).
  • Managing the fear of falling and mastering dynamic belaying.
  • On-sight and flash climbing strategies, and managing "projected" routes.
  • Knowledge and management of gear on challenging or overhanging crags.

Program

MODULE 1 – Dynamic Safety, Falling, and Confidence with Heights

Objective: Eliminate the fear of falling, perfect belaying techniques, and build trust within the climbing pair.

  • Theory & Material:

    • Analysis and limits of assisted-braking devices (GriGri, Revo, etc.) with ropes of different diameters.

    • Assessment of bolting (spacing, fall line, ground hazards, or ledges).

  • Crag Practice:

    • Guided and progressive fall testing: falls above the quickdraw, at waist-level quickdraw, at foot-level quickdraw.

    • Dynamic belay technique: Active absorption (forward step/controlled jump), reaction times, and body mass management between belayer and climber. Use of energy-dissipation devices such as Edelrid Ohm and Omega.

    • Use of the beta-stick to safely clip the first/second anchor.

MODULE 2 – Clipping Technique, Advanced Knots, and Managing Emergencies

Objective: Streamline rope maneuvers and manage critical situations on complex or overhanging single-pitch routes.

  • Rope and Quickdraw Management:

    • Ergonomics and body positioning during clipping

    • Friction management: extending quickdraws

  • Advanced Crag Maneuvers:

    • Belay stations and rappelling: quick review and variations of anchor maneuvers

    • Cleaning the route and gear recovery on overhanging terrain or challenging traverses.

MODULE 3 – Movement Biomechanics and Managing Vertical / Overhanging Terrain

Objective: Optimize physical effort and master advanced progression techniques.

  • Advanced Movement Technique:

    • Cross-pattern schemes, use of heel hooks, toe hooks, and mantels.

    • Three-dimensional movement: pelvic rotations, internal and external "flagging" for dynamic balance.

  • Climbing Economy:

    • Reading and using footholds: edging vs. smearing, sensitivity through the climbing shoe.

    • Rest points (no-hands rests, knee bars, muscle relaxation, and breathing at key points).

  • Educational tool: On-field video analysis to directly show the student postural errors or movement delays.

MODULE 4 – Ascent Tactics: On-sight, Flash, Redpoint, and Training

Objective: Combine skills to maximize grade and awareness of one's potential.

  • Strategy and Mindset:

    • Visualization (Mental Mapping): Reading the route from the ground (identifying the crux, rests, and clipping sequences).

    • On-sight vs. Redpoint Strategy: Climbing rhythm, managing the pump, decision-making at key sections (accelerating through hard sections).

  • Simulation and Performance:

    • On-sight and flash climbing attempts on target grades personalized for each student.

  • Debriefing and Educational Continuity:

    • Detailed individual feedback (strengths and areas for improvement).

Necessary materials

Minimum Material:

  • Harness
  • Helmet
  • Climbing shoes
  • Chalk bag
  • Assisted-braking belay device (Petzl Gri-Gri, WildCountry Revo, etc.)
  • 1 HMS wide-gate carabiner

Optional material:

Useful information

IMPORTANT NOTICES (WHATSAPP GROUPS)

  • Primary Communication Channel: All course-related communications, including logistical updates, outing details, and last-minute information, will be sent via dedicated WhatsApp groups for participants. It is essential to be active and check these groups regularly to stay up-to-date.

LOGISTICAL DETAILS (MEETING TIME AND PLACE)

  • Weather-dependent Updates: The exact meeting time and location for each outing will be communicated by the guides 1 or 2 days before the scheduled date. This timing is necessary to be able to accurately evaluate the weather forecast and choose the most suitable and safe location for the activity.

LUNCH AND HYDRATION (INDEPENDENCE)

  • Individual Responsibility: Lunch is a packed lunch, so each participant is responsible for bringing enough food for the entire day in the mountains. Likewise, it is crucial to ensure you have an adequate supply of water or other beverages to stay hydrated during physical activity. Guides can provide advice on this, but individual preparation is essential.

LOCATION OF OUTINGS (MARITIME ALPS AND POSSIBLE VARIATIONS)

  • Main Geographical Area: The practical outings of the course will preferably take place in the Cuneo area.
  • Possible Travel: However, in order to optimize environmental conditions (weather, crowding, terrain specificity) and ensure the best possible training experience, it is possible that some outings may be organized in Liguria (Finale Ligure area), renowned for its crags and coastal environment. Any change of location will be communicated promptly via WhatsApp groups.

The price includes

  • 4-day course with Global Mountain Alpine Guides
  • Any missing specific equipment listed in the "Optional Material" section

The price excludes

  • Transfers
