For those who want to experience a week in the untouched nature of the Sardinian east coast, away from comforts: you’ll dine and sleep outdoors or in natural shelters like caves and ancient shepherd huts, moving only on foot. Imagine a path that isn’t there, dense Mediterranean scrub, cliffs plunging into the blue sea, changing views at every turn, climbing passages alternating with exciting and spectacular rappels… And then the evenings around the fire, bivouacs in natural caves, and swims in the unforgettable Sardinian sea. The Selvaggio Blu trail proposed here follows the original itinerary, designed and discovered in the 80s, a long series of paths and passages used by shepherds and charcoal burners.
Travel light: luggage is collected after breakfast and delivered in the afternoon to the overnight spot. Only a picnic and a camera in your daypack.
Program
Day 1: meet in the morning at 10:00 AM in the small port of Santa Maria Navarrese and depart; following the easy path, we reach Pedra Longa in about 1 hour and 30 minutes, the spectacular bay dominated by the rocky spire of the same name. From here, the path continues towards the face of Punta Giradili, crossing it via the spectacular ledge to reach the plateaus of the Supramonte of Baunei and the abandoned Su Idileddu sheepfold, currently converted into a partially equipped bivouac; camp, dinner, and overnight stay.
Day 2: starting from the Ginnirco plateaus—located at the highest altitudes of the entire itinerary—we head towards the sea, walking along the edge of cliffs up to 300m high overlooking the water; we gradually descend, crossing Bacu (gorge) Tenadili thanks to providential “scale fustas” (juniper ladders) to reach the small, secluded beach of Porto Pedrosu. Bivouac and dinner under the stars among the trees just inside the cove.
Day 3: we soon reach Portu Cuau, another rocky inlet where the crystal-clear sea flows in; we continue through the Mediterranean scrub, climbing the southern slopes of Punta Salinas, where spectacular ancient stone and wood sheepfolds are nestled among the summit rocks. From here, the view of the nearby Aguglia Goloritzé below is truly breathtaking! Descending into the Goloritzé canyon via an easy path, we reach the stunning beach at the foot of the Aguglia. Transfer by dinghy to the Mariolu camp for the night, as sleeping in the Goloritzé canyon has been prohibited for several years.
Day 4: The dinghy takes us back to Goloritzé beach early in the morning; from here, the route immediately becomes rugged, requiring a couple of rocky passages (grade 3) to climb the deep Boladina canyon. Serra 'e Lattone and the beautiful sheepfolds of the same name offer spectacular and unique views until the rappel that leads to Bacu Mudaloru, characterized by a large cave where the sound of the sea echoes. A quiet and pleasant inlet, the perfect place for dinner and a bivouac.
Day 5: An hour's walk to "warm up the engines" and we reach the 5-Star Cave. A beautiful rappel just below the cave gives access to some exposed ledges which, alternating short climbing sections and brief rappels, lead to Bacu Padente. Climbing back up this narrow gorge that plunges into the sea, we reach the Ololbissi plateaus, from which we reach the "secret" passage of Sa Nurca (The Den), a narrow canyon hidden behind a huge rock flake. Several spectacular rappels give access to the large forests of Biriala and Oronnoro, then more short climbs, two more rappels, and finally, the long-awaited Cala Sisine!
The original Selvaggio Blu ends here, with a run-up and a final swim in the splendid sea! Shortly, the dinghy will arrive and, cruising along the cliffs we traversed in the previous days, will give us a better perspective of the journey completed. Return to the port of Santa Maria Navarrese and end of services.
