Rocca Provenzale is the impressive quartzite monolith that emerges in the upper Maira valley behind the village of Chiappera, the last town in the valley. Seen from below it appears inaccessible, while a logical route, less vertical than it might seem, allows you to reach its summit. The route follows a roped progression, always safe and tied to the Guide, and features climbing passages up to grade II and a total length of about 400m (difficulty PD).

From the summit of Rocca (or Croce) Provenzale you can admire the beautiful Stroppia waterfalls, the Brec de Chambeyron chain and the other peaks of the “Castello Provenzale Group”: Punta Figari, Torre Castello and Rocca Castello. The climb is suitable for everyone, an excellent testing ground for those who want to approach the world of classic climbs, which require roped progression, but also for trekking enthusiasts who wish to experience the thrill of an airy and extremely panoramic summit.

Program

Day departure from Cuneo at the Global Mountain Alpine Guide Office or from Dronero; after a brief check of individual equipment, we transfer by car to Chiappera where we park at the beginning of the trail leading to the walls; in about 45 minutes we reach the start of the normal route of Rocca Provenzale. Descent via the ascent route and return in the evening.
