Cottian Alps

The Castello Provenzale Group—three quartzite towers standing in the center of the Maurin valley—features very compact rock that is difficult to bolt but rich in cracks suitable for using fast protection. On these faces, you’ll find all types of climbing: from athletic, overhanging jam cracks to delicate slabs with tiny holds. The rock is generally excellent everywhere, with routes exceeding 250m in length. Routes range from historic climbs still in traditional style equipped with pitons to modern bolted routes. The setting is of unquestionable beauty and, thanks to the short approaches, extremely easy to reach.

Program

Same-day departure from Cuneo at the Global Mountain Alpine Guides Office or from Dronero; after a quick check of your individual gear, we'll drive to Chiappera and park at the trailhead leading to the faces. Depending on the chosen route, you'll reach the various sectors leading to the summits of the four main peaks: Rocca Provenzale, Punta Figari, Torre Castello, and Rocca Castello. Descent by abseil or via the normal route. Return in the evening.
